Aldec Active-HDL Student Edition distributed by Walmart and Barnes & Noble
Henderson, Nevada – February 20, 2006 -- Aldec, Inc., a pioneer in mixed-language simulation and advanced design tools for ASIC and FPGA devices, today announced that Active-HDL Student Edition is available now in the Walmart online store and Barnes & Noble book stores. Aldec, together with Prentice Hall are bringing VHDL and Verilog design entry and verification to the educational masses utilizing traditional supply chains to increase the overall awareness of EDA's importance in development of electronics.
The Aldec University Program and publisher Prentice Hall are embracing the online economy to provide inexpensive educational resources to the newly emerging digital logic circuit design methodologies, specifically the use of Hardware Description Languages (HDL) and Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools for simulation of these designs. Prentice Hall and Aldec are providing new opportunities for engineers of all backgrounds and abilities to more quickly and inexpensively master the use of Hardware Description Languages and IP Cores to design logic circuits inside Programmable Logic and ASIC Semiconductor devices.
Stan Hanel, Aldec University Program Manager said "Aldec's World-wide University Program continues an initiative to provide educational resources to students, making it easy for them to learn 'hands-on' Hardware Description Language design methodologies. Aldec, in partnership with Prentice Hall academic publishing, has placed the Student Edition of Active-HDL in distribution channels that include Walmart, Barnes & Noble, and the Prentice Hall online e-catalog. Engineering students of all ages and career levels now have the option to locally install this software on home personal computers and laptops, providing greater access to Aldec's commercial EDA product for entry, simulation and verification of their HDL designs."
Aldec created a Student Edition of Active-HDL, a popular EDA tool for logic circuit design entry, simulation and debugging of VHDL and Verilog. Although limited in capacity, the Student Edition CD includes a Hardware Description Language Editor for VHDL or Verilog languages, a Block Diagram Editor (BDE) and a Finite State Machine (FSM) Editor. The BDE and FSM editors allow a student to visualize his design in a structural or behavioral format before committing it to Hardware Description Language text. Interactive VHDL and Verilog tutorials on the CD teach students how to program in these essential Hardware Description Languages that underlay many of the most popular IP Cores available today for digital logic circuit design. The Student Edition of Active-HDL CD also includes Aldec's award-winning HDL simulator technology that can exercise these static Hardware Models through the use of a Testbench, also written in VHDL or Verilog code.
